‘ME TIME’
Take some time out for yourself.
Sit in the sun, make some tea, read a book, light a candle, simply listen to the sounds around you, be grateful for everything around you and dream.
If you are going through a tough time, remember, every thing works out in the end. Make decisions when you are confident that they are right for you and will not harm the people around you.

Although summer is on its way, I could definitely keep some room in my wardrobe for one of these magnificent Elie Saab pieces. The first dress above caught my attention and, an hour later, I am about to get back to the post I was drafting before hand… Procrastination doesn’t always have to be a bad thing.

Style icons come in all shapes and sizes

I have a confession. I have a new style icon that proves big things come in small packages. Alexander Wang’s gorgeous niece has been making her mark on street style with her fabulous outfits of late. She is super adorable and has impeccable taste…. (or should I say her uncle does!)

Hump Day Pamper

By now you will all know that we love a mid-week DIY pamper.

Tonight I am going to indulge in a DIY facial. Facials help maintain radiant skin and depending on your products, they can target different problem areas in our skin. I wanted to share with you a non-expensive DIY facial that you can do anytime.

Step 1:  Wash your face with a good cleanser. I use the Priori CoffeeBerry Revitalising Cleanser. I like a gel cleanser and it makes my skin feel revitalised after using it.

Step 2: Time to exfoliate. Using a gentle facial exfoliator or scrub go around your face in circular motions focusing on problem areas. I use the SkinCeuticals Micro exfoliating scrub, I find the micro beads to be gentle on my skin. Fill your sink with warm water and using a facial towel, soak it and then gentle wipe away all of the scrub.

Step 3: Time for my favourite part, the face mask. It is important here to pick a mask that targets any issues you are having with your skin. Due to the winter, I find my skin is dehydrated so I picked the Ella Bache Hydra-Revitalising Skin Balm. It is a beautiful, rich balm that instantly makes you glow! Cover the face with the mask and lie down and relax for 10 minutes. Massage into your face and then with a warm, wet facial towel, gently remove product from your face.

Step 4: Serum time - apply a serum to your face. I used the MD Skincare Anti-Aging Vitamin C serum. It replenishes my skin and protects it against free radicals.

Step 5: Moisturising time. I use a thick moisturiser as I love the feel of it on my skin. I understand we are all different in this department. At the moment I can’t get enough of the emollience moisturiser by Skinceuticals.

Step 6: Finish with an eye cream. I have actually been using a male product, but I love it. It is light and easily absorbed. Try the Body Shop Maca Root Rescue Eye Cream

Hopefully you can all try and give yourself a pamper or time out tonight. Enjoy my lovelies and remember, only 2 days until the weekend. Enjoy!!!

Cauliflower Pizza Base

If you have a pizza stone use it for this recipe. If you don’t, get one!

Once you have tried this recipe, you will have clean pizzas regularly.

Base - This is enough to make one pizza (30cm diameter or two small pizzas)

  • 1/2 head cauliflower (grated it should be approximately 2 cups)
  • 1 egg (egg white only if you are being super clean)
  • 1/4 cup cottage cheese (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon chopped oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed garlic (fresh garlic is best)
  • Cracked pepper

Topping examples:

  • Sliced tomatoes
  • 1 chicken breast (sliced)
  • Sliced mushrooms
  • Basil leaves
  • 1 egg
  • cottage cheese
  • Parsley

Method:

- Heat oven to 200 degrees (Celsius)

- Put the pizza stone (or the tray you are cooking on) in the oven to heat up - this step is the key to a crispy base.

- Steam the grated cauliflower for 8 minutes or until very soft.

- Mix all base ingredients together in a bowl.

- Lightly grease the tray you are cooking on with olive oil.

- Place the base mixture on the stone/tray and press out so the base is 1/2cm thick.

- Bake the base for 15-20 minutes or until it starts to brown.

- While the base is cooking, fry chicken in pan until cooked through and prepare your toppings.

- place the toppings (excluding parsley) on the base in the order that you prefer. I just simply crack the egg on top.

- Put the pizza in the oven and cook until the egg is firm.

- Remove from oven, garnish with parsley and serve.

The first time I cooked this pizza the base was a bit soft. This was because the tray I was cooking on was not hot enough before I put the base on and i did not cook the base for long enough before I put the toppings on.

It may take a few times until you have perfected the cauliflower pizza base, however even if it is slightly soft, it still tastes amazing!

You time

I was recently at dinner with a girlfriend whose opinion I value very highly. She asked me what my plans were for the week / weekend and after tirelessly listening to my long list she advised me that I have to stop, I have to start saying no and I have to start learning to enjoy ‘me’ time. It was one of those ‘ah’ moments where something really clicks and I knew I had to make changes then and there. I explained that I have a severe case of the FOMO (fear of missing out) bug and I tend to get a lot of energy from those around me. However, I understand now that it is about finding the healthy balance.

For those who know me well, they know that my weekdays generally consist of work, meeting a friend for coffee after work, meeting another friend for dinner – honestly it is a surprise I sometimes still have a boyfriend (the poor guy is left to his own devices too often). My weekends are then filled with breakfast dates, drinks, dashing all over town. Agh I’m getting tired even typing this. The most bizarre thing was that I was even starting my work days at 6.30 so I could come home early and have time for all these catch ups.

For me this is a big change. But I’ve made progress, I’ve started saying no. I’ve started dedicating more time to myself – learning to appreciate time by myself. Not feeling ridiculous about spending a weekend night in by myself watching movies and reading – more so appreciating that I have the time to do this. I’ve started only committing to one event per night and trying to be home for dinner every week night. I’ve even started coming to work later and enjoying a morning walk and leisurely breakfast, picking my coffee up on the way to work and man I feel good!!

I feel less tired, I don’t even feel guilty saying no anymore. I’ve gotten back in to my love of reading – I’m a total book nerd so any recommendations are welcome. I’m working on my goals and appreciating the time I spend with friends and family. So to all you busy bees that read my second paragraph knowing all too well that it resonates with your schedule, I urge you to take the time and courage to say no and to start saying yes to me time. I’m not saying become a social recluse but pick a few dates – don’t overcommit. You will value your catch ups so much more and you will be a better, rejuvenated version of you in no time.

Wellness Apps

I have been searching for some good iPhone Apps to motivate me in health and fitness. Below are some basic, informative apps where you will find daily tips and affirmations. Comment below if you have a favourite wellbeing app so we can check it out!

- Health Tip of the Day (my favourite): this app is brought to you by Lisa Best. Visit her website and blog http://healingwithholisticnutrition.com for some great articles and more tips! Each tip has a a list of links to other articles on the same topic.

- Wellness Tips: This app has a mixture of Body, Mind and Food tips. There are also some great recipes in there as well.

- Daily Affirmations: I find reading a daily affirmation first thing when I wake up or repeating one to myself before I go to bed is a great way to create resilience and maintain positive thinking, especially in everyday situations where you struggle to maintain an optimistic mind set. A few of my favourites are “I always think before I speak”, “I will act on all opportunities” and “My words have the power to motivate and encourage”. Many people do not realise the strength of the words they speak.

Some of the tips are self explanatory, however they act as a good reminder when we have those occasional slip ups.

I love that after so many years of consumers being lost in the whirlwind of foods, fitness equipment and general products being introduced into the market, that professionals and the general public are acting and communicating important information to educate us on the importance of being conscious of what we are eating, how often we exercise and stretch and keeping our mind focused. Marketing is a very powerful tool and consumers NEED to do their own research by sourcing information from as many areas as possible and make the right decision for ourselves.

Enjoy the apps and we welcome all of your feedback and recommendations for other health and fitness apps.

Rosehip Oil

One thing I can’t get enough of lately is rosehip oil. Since wellbeing has been in a public spotlight, the talk of rosehip oil as a part of our daily beauty routines has amplified. This little gem in a bottle is full of fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamins that hydrate and improve the appearance of your skin.

With Miranda Kerr swearing by Rosehip Oil as a part of her daily routine - I was hardly going to let it fall by the wayside. I truly believe that it has approved the appearance and elasticity of my skin.

Whilst your skin may look shiny (depending how much you use) after applying it, it will feel as soft as a baby’s bottom in no time. You can use it as a moisturiser or alongside one. The general rule of thumb is two - three drops on a cleansed face morning and night.

I recommend one of the following three brands.

1. Trilogy

2. Kora

3. Sukin
