Green smoothies

After a few weeks of falling off the health bandwagon, I am so ready to get healthy again. With the help of my fellow kateinmay partner, Renee I am pumped to increase my fitness, healthy foods and feel wonderful again. I am a health blog junkie and the latest craze appears to be green smoothies.

Green smoothies are packed with chlorophyll, a plants equivalent to the human blood. Chlorophyll helps cleanse the body, fight infection, helps heal wounds, and promote the health of the circulatory, digestive, immune, and detoxification systems. Chlorophyll consumption increases the number of red blood cells and, therefore, increase oxygen utilization by the body (source: www.energiseforlife.com).

So this week in preparing for a healthier lifestyle I am going to incorporate a green juice into my daily eating. When I mentioned this to my friends on Friday night I was given many “ew” comments and disgusted faces, but I told them I would one day be saying “I told you so”. So the general rule is to have the smoothie as a stand alone meal and to have it at least 60:40 vegetable to fruit ratio.

I went to the farmer’s markets this morning and got a whole lot of beautiful, fresh produce to kickstart a healthy and happy week!

My green smoothie recipe is going to be:

  • 1 1/2 cups spinach
  • 1 lettuce leaf
  • 1/2 stick celery
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 pear
  • 1/2 apple
  • Ginger
  • Squeeze of lemon juice
  • Tbs of LSA

Would love to hear any of your ideas for healthy eating. I’m keen especially to find out some great clean snacks and lunch ideas. I will let you know how my smoothie goes, but for now it is back to the kitchen for me! Adios and have a clean and healthy week!
